Matching Funds for Mentoring Children of Prisoners Grant Funded by The Department of Health & Human Services,
The Administration for Children and Families

November 4, 2009

Dear Friend and Supporter:

We’re pleased to announce that Urban Family Council has received funding for its Mentoring Children of Prisoners Program for 2009-2010. UFC will partner with 18 local congregations, five community agencies, and two training organizations to serve children ages 4 to 18 over a period of three years. Project objectives are:

  1. Identify and enroll 360 children whose parents are prisoners in the local, State or Federal correction system,
  2. Link children with 360 mentors who have completed successful applications and screening/reference checks and received initial training, and
  3. Incorporate the elements of Positive Youth Development into the mentoring program, including skill acquisition for the 360 mentors through ongoing monthly training and support.

Part of our commitment is to match non-Federal share of this Project cost in the amount of $54,000 for year 1, in accordance with section 439(e) of the Social Security Act.  Therefore, we’re asking you to help us out with a tax-deductible donation for the Mentoring Children of Prisoners Program.

We look forward to whatever support you can provide, and please also check for matching funds through your employer or United Way Campaign (UFC's Donor Choice number is 8393). If you require additional information about the Mentoring Children of Prisoners Program, please contact me at 215-879-2485 and I will be glad to provide it. You may also donate online by clicking here.

Thank you for your consideration and generosity.

Blessings,
